This Area of the Spine Is Often Related to Tension Headaches

Posted on September 26, 2018

If you suffer from more than 2 headaches a month, you are not alone. Some  studies indicate 60% of Americans suffer from chronic headaches.  While many headache treatments are available, not many can provide headache relief without the use of long therm medicine like chiropractic adjustments can.  Over 230 peer-reviewed articles have confirmed a chiropractor’s ability to help reduce headaches!

How Chiropractic Care Can Help Reduce Headaches

When chiropractic care can help with headache relief, the most common area of the body that is addressed is the cervical spine.  As seen on this x-ray, headaches are commonly the result of misalignments within the upper cervical spine. With a misalignment in this area, a headache can be the result of torsion forces placed upon nearby nerves, muscles and blood vessels. While medications such as ibuprofen may provide immediate relief, they only provide temporary relief.

The Process of Balancing the Cervical Spine

If cervical spine imbalances are found during your examination, Dr. Bob Mason determines if they are correlated to headaches.  Before proceeding with treatments, he can usually determine what percentage of headache relief a you should experience with chiropractic adjustment therapy. Customized stretches/exercises are provided to hold your alignment once it’s corrected.
