3 Daily Neck Stretches for a Desk Job

Neck stretches are essential for relieving tension and maintaining flexibility, especially if you have a desk job that requires prolonged periods of sitting and working on a computer. Here are a few neck stretches you can incorporate into your routine:


Neck Tilts: Start in a neutral position with your head facing forward. Gently tilt your head to the right, bringing your right ear towards your right shoulder. Hold for 15-30 seconds and then repeat on the left side. Remember to keep your shoulders relaxed and avoid any jerking or sudden movements.

Neck Flexion and Extension: Begin in a neutral position with your head facing forward. Slowly lower your chin towards your chest, feeling a stretch along the back of your neck. Hold for a few seconds, then slowly lift your head back up to the starting position. Next, tilt your head back, looking up towards the ceiling, while keeping your mouth closed. Hold for a few seconds and then return to the neutral position. Repeat the flexion and extension movement several times.

Shoulder Rolls: Shoulder tension can contribute to neck discomfort, so it’s important to incorporate shoulder rolls into your routine. Sit or stand with your back straight. Roll your shoulders forward in a circular motion, completing several rotations. Then, reverse the direction and roll them backward. This exercise helps release tension in the neck and shoulder area.

Remember to perform these stretches gently and slowly. If you experience neck pain or discomfort during any stretch, stop immediately and consult a healthcare professional.
