How Does Chiropractic Care Boost the Immune System?

Posted on January 21, 2019

For decades, parents have used utilized chiropractic care as both a preventative and therapeutic approach to the winter’s cold and flu season for their children.  Over the past 12 years, Dr. Bob Mason (a kids chiropractor in Ballantyne), has noticed a noticeable difference in the frequency of colds, ear infections and upper respiratory infections among children who are adjusted on a regular basis versus those who are not.

Numerous studies have explored and led to the relationship between pediatric chiropractic care and the immune system.

A landmark study in 1975 led to the positive effects that chiropractic care has on the immune system.  Dr. Ronald Pero, Ph.D., was chief of cancer prevention and a professor at New York University/New York Preventative Medicine Institute. This study examined the immune system through DNA repairing enzymes. His conclusion showed correlations between an increase in lymphatic cancers with spinal cord injuries. His research also showed the connection between hormone  production (which impacts the immune system) by the nervous system.

The New York Times reported an article in a British Medical Journal on May 13, 1993, that showed the anatomical connection between the nervous system and the immune system.  The article discovered the connection of the nerve cell endings and white blood cells.

Because Doctors of Chiropractic focus on the nervous system, these connections led Dr. Pero to consider chiropractic as a potential alternative for reducing the risk of immune breakdown and disease.  Following numerous studies, Dr. Pero concluded that following a chiropractic adjustment, an individual will experience a 200% increase in white blood cell counts.  His studies also showed that a person that is experiencing an illness such as a viral or bacterial infection averaged a 400% increase in white blood cell count.

The theory behind this discovery includes the direct impact that a spinal adjustment has on the nervous system.  By aligning the spine in children, pediatric chiropractic care helps optimize the immune system through the nervous system.

Dr. Bob Mason is a kids chiropractor in Ballantyne, and helps children who are suffering from recurring ear infections, colds, viral infections or the little ones who always seem to catch the “crud” that is being passed around.  By maintaining their nervous system Active Life Chiropractic sees children achieve wellness and greatly reduce the amount of yearly sick days.
