How to EASE Tailbone Pain

Tailbone pain, also known as coccydynia, can be quite uncomfortable and disruptive. Here are a few suggestions to help alleviate tailbone pain:

Rest and avoid putting pressure on your tailbone. This may mean taking a break from sitting for extended periods or using a cushion with a hole or cutout to reduce pressure on the tailbone.

Apply heat or cold to the area. A warm bath or heating pad can help ease pain and reduce muscle tension. Ice packs or a bag of frozen vegetables wrapped in a towel can help reduce inflammation and swelling.

Gentle exercises like walking can help alleviate tension and strengthen muscles in the area. Consult a healthcare professional such as a chiropractor for specific exercises and stretches that are safe and appropriate for your condition.

Get an X-Ray and rule out a fracture! If you recently fell, it is a good idea to have an x-ray to rule out a fracture.

An x-ray may also show a misaligned coccyx (tailbone). Depending on the misalignment, chiropractors can often treat tailbone pain by realigning the sacrum, coccyx and surrounding muscles and speed up the healing process.

It’s important to consult a healthcare professional if you have persistent or severe tailbone pain. They can help determine the underlying cause of your pain and recommend appropriate treatment options.
