Did You Know That Most Auto Accident Injuries Don’t Reveal Themselves For Weeks?

Posted on February 21, 2018

According to The Mayo Clinic, 40% of spinal injuries are caused by automobile accidents.  While many of these injuries are felt immediately, some are not felt for days or weeks later.

The Spinal Injury Process

During an auto accident, the muscles, tendons and ligaments that support the spine are stretched and sometimes torn. (See video below)  The diagnosis is referred to as soft tissue damage and represents the most common injury from an auto accident. Neck pain does not develop until later due a slow increase in inflammation, or swelling, of these structures.  Decreased spinal flexibility, headaches, neck pain, arm pain and the inability to concentrate known as “brain fog,”often worsen as the inflammation increases.

It is imperative that the soft tissue and spinal alignment are treated so that they heal properly following an accident.
